Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate Housing Expansion in Knoxville

New Windsor Ridge Apartments Unveiled

Community and business leaders will gather at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of a new housing complex in Knoxville, Iowa. Windsor Ridge Apartments will provide high-quality, affordable housing for adults age 62 and older.

Windsor Ridge Apartments, located at 1210 Eric Drive, is a brick, one-story design on a 4.7-acre site close to a grocery store and medical services. The $1.7 million development includes 24 one-bedroom apartments with individual entrances. Each offers individually controlled heat and air conditioning and appliances. A community room and centralized laundry facility are available for use by residents.

Windsor Ridge Apartments was developed by Burns & Burns, L.C. of Iowa City, Iowa and was made possible through a $705,000 investment by Alliant Energy Resources through its affordable housing subsidiary, Heartland Properties, Inc. A tour, including refreshments, will be held immediately following the ribbon cutting ceremony. Other event specifics follow:

Many other organizations contributed to the success of Windsor Ridge Apartments, including the USDA Rural Development Program, Iowa Finance Authority, Iowa Department of Economic Development and the City of Knoxville.

"People working toward a common goal can achieve great things," says Michael Cunningham, Mayor, City of Knoxville. "We recognized senior housing as an unmet need in our community and joined with state and private entities to create a solution. The result of our collaborative efforts is a beautiful new housing unit for older adults. We're very pleased with this addition to Knoxville."

Scott Fitzpatrick, Iowa Housing Manager for Heartland Properties, Inc., adds that as Iowa's population continues to age, providing affordable housing options for older adults is increasingly important. "Windsor Ridge Apartments is helping meet senior housing needs in the Knoxville area," says Fitzpatrick. "It is a place many can be proud to call home."
